Anne Hardy
Anne Hardy’s work employs photography, sculptural installation and audio. The works she has donated to the project #100NHSRooms feature the sculpture garden ‘Las Pozas’ in Mexico.
Hardy writes: “Las Pozas was brought into being by Edward James with the help of Plutarco Esquer and master carpenter José Aguilar and the residents of nearby Xilitla who worked on it for more than 40 years. James wanted the garden to appear as a ruin, that could be discovered by future generations, and it is now cared for by Xilitla Foundation who work hard to keep this delicate balance between preservation and entropy. The garden covers 20 acres of land on a steeply sloping site of a former coffee plantation, and is a collage of the many art, architectural and spiritual/mystical influences that James gathered in his world travels and conversations. Many cast forms reference plants (including hallucinogens) and animals and the engineering of the structures and the many supporting walls depends on local knowledge of stone construction handed down through generations. The whole site is aligned with sun and moon rise and shadows.”
