Neasden Control Centre

Urban Jungle, 2015

Vinyl and framed limited edition Giclée prints
First and second floor, children’s ward and treatment rooms, Dental Hospital, Royal London

Our commission for the new Dental Hospital comes from artist and illustrator Stephen Smith from Neasden Control Centre. We set Stephen the task of creating a space that would appeal to younger children as well as adolescents in the very awkward space of the dentist’s chair.

The installation at the Dental Hospital of the Royal London Hospital features a mixture of large prints together with illustrations around the wards. The aim of the artwork is to create a playful dialogue between the illustrated figures, animals, birds, forests and urban architecture which would appeal to toddlers and teenagers within the same space.

Special care was taken to blend the colour scheme into the already existing colours of the dental furniture, staff uniforms and equipment in the ward to create a harmonious balance between the commission artwork and hospital architecture.

We have received some great coverage for this project, please visit our press page to find out more including an interview with the artist in Grafik and Domus.

This commission has been kindly funded by The Abbey Harris Mural Fund

“The art work looks fantastic. It really has brightened up the department. Nearly all my patients parents have commented on the art.

Watching my patients walk down towards the surgery was fantastic to see their little faces light up when they see the animals. One in particular was very impressed with the blue leopard.”

Mr Leon Bassi, Staff Dental Therapist, Paediatric Dental Department
