Constructing a New World, 2014

Vital Arts are delighted to announce our commission by Swedish painter, sculptor and conceptual artist Jacob Dahlgren. For his first public UK commission, Dahlgren has designed a site-specific installation for the front entrance to the new Dental Hospital at The Royal London.

An architectural three-dimensional drawing in space; part of the work consists of vibrant, colourful lines painted on to the wall and the other part is made up of brightly coloured powder coated rods. Together the painted lines and the three-dimensional elements work as a complex abstract drawing where the shadows also become part of the composition.

This dynamic commission aims to help improve the hospital environment for both patients and staff. Over one million people attend the six hospitals within our trust each year, looked after by 15,000 members of staff. We see these important civic spaces as ideal places to introduce a new audience to contemporary art.
