Eddie Peake

Eddie Peake has donated two works from 2019. He says:

“These works are from a series I made whilst developing the cover imagery for a music release by the recording artist Jack Peñate. They grew out of ongoing conversations between the two of us, which resulted in a pared-back, geometric colour-gradient representation of a mountain. For us it symbolised spiritual and intellectual ascension, as well as the totemic purity and formidable magnificence of nature.”

Eddie says of his donation to #100NHSRooms:

“Even before the Covid-19 pandemic, the NHS always seemed to me to be among the greatest things this country has to offer, and as such should be protected at all costs. For me personally it has been invaluable, and in the last few years the treatment my daughter has received has been no less than life saving. The debt of gratitude I owe it, and all its nurses, doctors and staff, has only been compounded by our current circumstances.”

Eddie Peake was born in London in 1981 where he continues to live and work. His work encompasses performance, video, photography, painting, sculpture and installation. Peake’s main focus lies in the lapses and voids inherent in the process of translating between verbal language and nonverbal modes of communication. It is in the discrepancy between words and any other language, say, images, emotions, bodily movements or sounds, that his art is located.
